Why we do this
There was nowhere to rent a car. So we bought some.
Guests kept telling us the same thing: taxis don't come, buses don't go where they want to go, and the nearest rental desk is a long way away. Myoko is beautiful and spread out. Without wheels you see one mountain; with wheels you see the region.
NINJA is an official Mitsubishi Rent-A-Car location and the restaurant next to the parking lot. Pick up your keys, ask about local roads, and stay for dinner in the same place.

Per seat. Tell us your children’s ages and how many seats you need.
Rates per vehicle. The 1-, 2-, and 3-day prices are totals for that rental period. From day 4, add the extra-day rate for each day. Options are separate; we confirm the final amount before booking.

Cancellation
Free until 7 days before pickup. 30% from 6 to 3 days, 50% from 2 days to the day itself, 100% for a no-show. Weather cancellations are handled case by case — talk to us.

Before you book
Three documents. No exceptions.
Japan is strict about this, and so are we. Driving without the right permit is driving without a license here — it invalidates the insurance and it's a criminal offense.

Issued in your home country before you travel, under the 1949 Geneva Convention. It cannot be obtained in Japan.

If your country doesn't issue a 1949-Convention IDP — France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Monaco, Taiwan and Estonia among them — a certified Japanese translation of your license is needed instead. Message us and we'll walk you through it before you book.
Driving here
What's different, honestly.
We drive on the left
Same as Australia, New Zealand and the UK. If you're coming from Europe or North America, give yourself the first few minutes in the parking lot.
Snowy roads are fine if you slow down
4WD and winter tires handle ordinary snow comfortably. Braking distance is what catches people out — leave twice the gap you think you need.
Zero alcohol. Truly zero.
Japan has no legal drinking limit for drivers — any alcohol at all is an offense, with severe penalties. If you're eating with us and driving, we'll pour you something soft.

There's a gas station a few minutes away. We'll show you on the map at pickup.
Pickup & return
It all happens at our counter.
Cars are parked beside the shop. Pickup and return are from 12:00 to 16:00 (noon–4 PM). Contact us to arrange another time.

FAQ
Rental car questions
Do I need an International Driving Permit?
Yes. It's mandatory to drive in Japan and it cannot be issued here — you must get it in your home country before you travel. You'll also need your home country license and your passport. Driving without an IDP counts as driving unlicensed.
Is driving on snow safe?
With 4WD and studless winter tires, ordinary snow roads are comfortable. We ask everyone to drive slowly and leave far more braking distance than usual. If conditions are genuinely bad, we'll tell you.
How many people can fit?
Choose a preferred model or tell us your group size and gear. We confirm the available vehicle, seating, and total price when we reply.
Is insurance included?
Basic insurance is included. Optional liability waiver: ¥1,100 per day for vehicle and third-party property damage deductibles. Rental terms and exclusions apply; please see the options section or ask us.
Do I need a roof box?
Required for skis and snowboards. Availability and price confirmed with your request.
Can I book on the day?
If something's free, yes. In high season, book ahead — ten cars is not many when the village is full.
Can I rent for several days?
Yes. We list total prices for one, two, and three days. For four or more days, add the extra-day rate to the three-day total.
Where do I pick up and drop off?
