FAQ
General
Do you speak English?
Yes — every day, in person and on WhatsApp. English menus and English paperwork throughout. We can also help in basic Japanese with things outside our own services, like booking somewhere else for dinner or calling a physical therapist.
Where exactly are you?
426-34 Akakura, Myoko, Niigata 949-2111, Japan. We're in Akakura Onsen village, walking distance from the Akakura Onsen ski area, with the parking lot right beside the shop.
What are your opening hours?
12:00 to 22:00, last orders 21:30. We run straight through from lunch to dinner. No fixed closing day (open daily through the winter season).
How do I contact you?
For a table, a car or luggage, use the booking form on our Contact page — it asks everything we'd need and gives you a reference number. For a quick question, WhatsApp us on +81 50-6867-6929. We usually reply within a few hours during the season.
What payment methods do you accept?
Cash, credit card and bank transfer. If you're paying from overseas, we can arrange PayPal or a direct bank transfer.
FAQ
Restaurant
Do I need to book a table?
In quiet periods, no. Mid-season, yes — we run two seatings a night and they fill. Groups of six or more should always book ahead.
Can you take a group of 50?
Yes, with notice. Tell us the date, the numbers and roughly what you want the evening to look like, and we'll build it.
Can you do vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free?
Yes, with advance notice. Message us with exactly what you can't eat and we'll check with the kitchen and tell you honestly what we can put together. Guests with celiac disease and dairy intolerance have eaten with us repeatedly.
Are children welcome?
Very. All evening, no cut-off time. Tell us how many children when you book so we can arrange the seating properly.
How much should I expect to spend?
Around ¥1,000 to ¥2,000 per person for food, more if you work your way through the sake list — which we'd encourage.
FAQ
Rental car
Do I need an International Driving Permit?
Yes. It's mandatory to drive in Japan and it cannot be issued here — you must get it in your home country before you travel. You'll also need your home country license and your passport. Driving without an IDP counts as driving unlicensed.
Is driving on snow safe?
With 4WD and studless winter tires, ordinary snow roads are comfortable. We ask everyone to drive slowly and leave far more braking distance than usual. If conditions are genuinely bad, we'll tell you.
How many people can fit?
Choose a preferred model or tell us your group size and gear. We confirm the available vehicle, seating, and total price when we reply.
Is insurance included?
Basic insurance is included. Optional liability waiver: ¥1,100 per day for vehicle and third-party property damage deductibles. Rental terms and exclusions apply; please see the options section or ask us.
Do I need a roof box?
Required for skis and snowboards. Availability and price confirmed with your request.
Can I book on the day?
If something's free, yes. In high season, book ahead — ten cars is not many when the village is full.
Can I rent for several days?
Yes. We list total prices for one, two, and three days. For four or more days, add the extra-day rate to the three-day total.
Where do I pick up and drop off?
Cars are parked beside the shop. Pickup and return are from 12:00 to 16:00 (noon–4 PM). Contact us to arrange another time.
FAQ
Luggage
How far in advance do I need to drop off for airport delivery?
At least five days before your flight. Snow regularly delays couriers in this region, and three days does not leave enough margin. Storage without delivery can usually be arranged the same day.
Which airports can you deliver to?
Narita, Haneda and Kansai.
How long can you store my bags?
From a few hours to several days. Just tell us when you'll be back.
What can't you store?
Valuables such as cash and passports, fragile or precision items, fresh food, and dangerous goods like flammables, gas canisters and loose batteries.
How does luggage delivery work?
Drop your bags with us and we photograph and log them, then hand them to the courier for your airport. You collect them from the airport's baggage service counter on your departure day.
Tell us when you're coming.
A message is enough. Table, car, bags, or just a question about Myoko — we'll take it from there.
